In 2012 Zanisnik received a cease & desist letter from Philip Roth’s legal council for holding one of his novels in a performance. The absurdity of this legal battle inspired the artist to create the Philip Roth Presidential Library, a series of monumental drywall and wood sculptures that each housed hundreds of Philip Roth novels. The installation references architecture, archeology, medieval reliquaries, and time capsules while creating a work that both celebrates Roth’s genius while also criticizing him and his excessive ego.
